ULUNDI
The Ulundi community project was a particularly emotional project. Growthties was requested by a local NPO to initially participate in a workshop to advise and assist with fundraising opportunities for a number of various SMMEs in the community. Uluma, the NPO was a group of very determined young ladies who believed in the development of their community and improving the lively hood of the community members.
Growthties team was touched by the initial engagement with the Uluma team that a partnership was formed. Growthties assisted in the development of strategies and multiple programmes devised for implantation. This project is a very strong example of key stakeholder engagements as well as social facilitation. a selection criteria was developed and because it is communal land with all the traditional protocol that was observed in, the partnership had to engage the local municipality, 9 Traditional leaders, community leaders, and the community at large. SMMEs were identified for each area as well as suitable produce. Access to market is still being secured with talks with the likes of Spar Group, local retailers as well as other offtakers of cotton. This process is at an advanced stage. Ulundi is full of potential with all the buy in from different local stakeholders in place, including the use of land for the betterment of their people. Growthties sees this as an immediate opportunity to assist participants that are ready.
